INTRODUCTION
Ovation Theatre is the highly acclaimed theatre program at Glenda Dawson High School in Pearland, TX. Founded in 2007, Ovation Theatre has won renown throughout the State of Texas for the quality of its productions and the excellence of its educational program. Our mission is to provide the highest caliber of theatrical experiences for our students so that they may achieve their fullest potential as artists, leaders, and citizens.
Ovation offers courses in performance (Theatre I-IV) and technical production (Theatre Tech I-IV, Theatre Production). Currently, more than 600 students perform annually in musicals, full-length plays, improv shows, a new works festival, the UIL One Act Play Competition, and in cabarets and pop shows in collaboration with Encore Choir.
Beyond our commitment to the cultural life of Dawson High School, Ovation helps define new directions in the culture of our community by providing theatrical experiences for our junior high and elementary school students, including hosting our district’s Junior High One Act Play Contest in the spring and a musical theatre camp in the summer.
To reach our vision this past year, we were guided by four actions:
Make
Learn
Inspire
Give

STUDENT WORK
Emboldening students in the arts is a primary objective of Ovation Theatre. This includes allowing them to not only carry out tasks, but to elevate their own creative voice by providing them with design opportunities. This emboldens them to continue their work outside of our walls, and think like a true creative.

COMMUNITY
The mission of our program is to prepare high schools students to successfully pursue higher learning in an ever-changing world.
We will help students discover and develop their unique skills and talents through an intense, integrated arts and academic program that combines critical thinking and a whole-person developmental approach to learning.
We aim to develop students academically, artistically, and socially so that they leave the school as independent, cooperative, responsible, and creative young adults with a lifelong interest in learning and the arts.
We believe that these skills and qualities will prepare our students to pursue further educational goals and allow them to contribute to the life and well-being of society as a whole.
Integral to that mission is service to others.
Ovation Theatre welcomed a local Scout troop to watch our production of Big Fish this fall. The Scouts were offered discounted tickets and had the chance to participate in a cast “meet & greet” after the show.

Every summer, Ovation Theatre students serve as camp counselors to Pearland ISD students in grades 3-8 who attend SHOWSTOPPERS, a musical theatre camp. This year, we had over one hundred and four campers, many of them within Dawson High School’s feeder pattern. We served as role models and mentors for younger students to look up to.
Ovation Theatre welcomed some incredible instructors from all over the country this past summer for our annual BOOT CAMP to provide acting and technical workshops for students.
Some of the cast members from Big Fish traveled to local elementary schools to advertise the production. Students handed out flyers to the kids and met the fantastical characters of the show as they walked to their parents at dismissal.
